WITEC SWEDEN

"SPORTS INNOVATION CENTRE"
ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION 2014
- a collaboration between BMÖ and LTH

In the spring of 2014, BMÖ (WiTEC SWEDEN's former host organization) and Lund University of Technology, Architecture & Construction organized an architectural competition where the international architecture students were tasked with developing a future model for a "Sports Innovation Centre" for Båstad.

The mission was to create a dynamic meeting place for sports-related companies where different industries could work together in an innovative, healthy, life-affirming and inspiring environment.

The jury for the architectural competition included the following people:

  • Christer Malmström, Lund University of Technology/Architectural Education
  • Abelardo Gonzalez, Abelardo Gonzalez Arkitektbyrå AB
  • Monika Gora,  Gora Art & Landscape
  • Björn- Anders Larsson, Center for Sports Economics
  • Sven Palmkvist, Apelryd Foundation

Background for the competition

With the Innovation Hub, BMÖ wanted to create a dynamic meeting place for collaboration between higher education, research, business and the surrounding community. In the Båstad Sports Innovation Center architectural competition, the students started from the possibility of being able to place the dynamic meeting place in the vicinity of Norrviken's gardens. In a beautiful stimulating environment with proximity to an active leisure life.

Through collaboration between innovative students, researchers and companies, Business Management Öresund saw that an Innovation Hub could become a strong future attraction for business, the tennis city of Båstad and the beautiful Bjäre. A vision that might become a reality sometime in the future.
